An old Nordic name that is formed of the word Geirr meaning spear. Etymology from the German-Sconce "gaizaz", and in its turn from urindoeuropeiskans "ǵ ʰ AYS-" ("spiked rod", "javelin"). Geir are also found as the first step in the ancient German name Gerhard and Nordic Germund.
