"Osei" is the name given to some of the kings of the powerful Ashanti Empire/Kingdom in Ghana during the beginning of the 16th century. We have Ashanti kings like King Osei Kofi Tutu I(a co-founder of the Ashanti Empire in Ghana), King Osei Bonsu, King Osei Kwadwo and King Kwame Panyin. The Ashanti Empire was formed in 1701 and King Osei Tutu was crowned "Asantehene"(King of Ashanti) and sat on a Golden Stool, the symbol of the Ashanti Empire and people.
