· Secretary John Ackermans, who has been with the branch since its foundation six years ago, encouraged men — and women — to join the Prinsep Street-based group. Mr Ackermans conceded the club was struggling to entice new members and had just six regular participants, which he said was because of a decrease in nearby mining operations.

John Ackermans recently resigned from the board where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee. We thank him for his dedicated service in helping keep the numbers straight during a crucial time. We are not saying farewell to John and Faye who continue to enjoy Pender’s sailing and gardening scene as part-time islanders.
