Could probably from the French "le pot (the pot) come. Perhaps one of the ancestors pottery maker or had equipment to do this, maybe it was the nickname dubbed with, because in French, attracted by the name laugh (for which the namesakes of course, nothing can!). Recalled that former name bought one, and who reasonable purchase could not, then just got nicknames. More details would have to explore it well.
